Put it on manual, ISO of 1600 and the widest ap you've got, and see what kind of ss that gets you. Select your center focus point and Al Servo. Shoot RAW so you can fix the horrible white balance issues after the fact. See if that helps.
Oh...and go into your menu and select CF 4-1 to set the focus to the * button.
